Venetian blinds are favoured for residential use because they have unique aesthetic appeal. Unfortunately, their design also allows the accumulation of dirt on the surfaces. Therefore, individuals with homes in dusty areas find the process of cleaning the blinds challenging. However, with a few simple tricks, you can protect the appeal of your window coverings and keep your home sanitary. Here are essential tips on keeping your Venetian blinds clean.

Clean Lightly but Frequently

Venetian blinds can be difficult to clean if they have a thick layer of grime and dust. Often, the filth cannot be eliminated without unmounting the blinds and deep cleaning the surfaces. You can avoid the need for this time-consuming process by lightly cleaning the blinds frequently. Ideally, you will only need to draw the curtains and dust the blinds with a cloth or feather duster. You can also use an appropriate cleaning solution to wipe off spots and grime. You can also save time by using a vacuum and its brush attachment instead of a simple duster.

Deep Clean Occasionally

If you have neglected your Venetian blinds or noticed that they are not as beautiful as they used to be, you should plan for deep cleaning. Deep cleaning eliminates the stubborn stains and oily grime on the blinds, restoring the original aesthetics. For this process, you will need to detach the blinds from their fixed position. You do not need to have any mechanical skills. Most modern blinds have slide-off fittings for easy removal. Then, you should fill a bathtub or basin with warm water and some soap. Dip the blinds into the water and wash each slat with a soft sponge. Once the surfaces dry, you can mount them to your windows again. You should note that this method is only appropriate for synthetic blinds. If you soak wooden blinds in water, you will accelerate their damage and degradation.

Choose the Right Detergent

Whether you are light or deep cleaning your windows, you will need to select the correct solution for the best results. The poor choice of soap can damage the blinds, causing premature failure. If you are washing synthetic blinds, look for a mild soap like dishwashing liquid. This is sufficient for keeping the plastic free of dirt. Moreover, this type of solution does not have corrosive properties. Wooden windows are more sensitive. So, you should use a wood cleaning product for the preservation of the material. If you are in doubt about your chosen product, you should test on a small patch first.
